About Us
Longstanton Bowls Club was formed in 1986 when a group of residents from Longstanton, who were interested in playing bowls, got together and decided to build a new bowls green. Since the bowls green opened in 1987, the club has entered various leagues and competitions with varying degrees of success. Check out the club history for more information.
The bowls green is located on the recreation ground right next to the Longstanton Sports and Social Club on the Over Road. For directions check out Contact Us.
The bowls green is usually open from mid April to early September each year. For 2008, the club opening day will be Saturday 21 April at 2pm.
The club enters teams in four local leagues: the Cambridgeshire County Bowling Association’s Men’s Triples League, Cambridgeshire Ladies’ Triples League, Cambridge and District League, and the Business Houses League. Most of the matches are held in the evening, but there are some afternoon fixtures at the weekends.
As well as these league matches the club hosts friendly matches for members every Monday evening during the season and these are an ideal opportunity for new members to find out more about the club or the game of bowls. Also, each year the club runs a number of knock out competitions for the members, culminating in a Finals Day that is held in early September.
The club draws most of its membership from Longstanton and the surrounding villages of Bar Hill, Swavesey, Over, Willingham, Oakington and Cottenham. Longstanton Bowls Club will be the nearest bowling club to the new town of Northstowe.
The Longstanton Bowls Club organizes various social events for the members through the year.
